From his 1984 album "Hot House Flowers". Wynton Learson Marsalis (born October 18, 1961 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American trumpeter and composer. He is among the most prominent jazz musicians of the modern era and is also a well-known instrumentalist in classical music. He is also the Musical Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. A compilation of his series of inspirational letters to a young jazz musical student, named Anthony, has been published as To a Young Jazz Musician.
Marsalis has made his reputation with a combination of skill in jazz performance and composition, a sophisticated yet earthy and hip personal style, an impressive knowledge of jazz and jazz history, and skill as a virtuoso classical trumpeter. As of 2006, he has made sixteen classical and more than thirty jazz recordings, has been awarded nine Grammys between the genres, and has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his epic oratorio, "Blood on the Fields", which is on the subject of slavery. The first time it has been awarded for a jazz recording.

The most famous and probably greatest jazz baritonist of all time, Gerry Mulligan was a giant. A flexible soloist who was always ready to jam with anyone from Dixielanders to the most advanced boppers, Mulligan brought a somewhat revolutionary light sound to his potentially awkward and brutal horn and played with the speed and dexterity of an altoist.
Mulligan started on the piano before learning clarinet and the various saxophones. His initial reputation was as an arranger.

Un jazz raffinato e accattivante quello che Chuck Mangione, trombettista italoamericano (padre e madre siciliani)
l 29 novembre 1940. Suo padre è amico di musicisti come Art Blackey, Horace Silver e, soprattutto, di Dizzy Gillespie che regala al piccolo Chuck la sua prima tromba quando ha soltanto otto anni. Il ragazzo si innamora della musica. Diplomatosi alla Eastman School of Music, nel 1960 forma con suo fratello Gap i Jazz Brothers della cui formazione fanno parte musicisti come Ron Carter, Sal Nistico, Roy McCurdy e Jimmy Garrison. Cinque anni dopo, trasferitosi a New York, si unisce ai Jazz Messenger del vecchio amico di famiglia Art Blackey e suona con musicisti come Maynard Ferguson, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea. Lasciati i Jazz Messenger forma, nel 1968, il Chuck Mangione Quartet e nel 1970 durante uno show televisivo dirige la Rochester Filarmonic Orchestra nell'esecuzione di Friends and love, una sua composizione che ottiene un grande successo di pubblico e che, pubblicata in un doppio album, diventa il suo primo successo discografico.
